On March 4-5, 2007, the Hispanic Family Learning Institute, along with the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and the Pew Hispanic Center, convened the first Summit on Hispanic Family Learning, with funding and support from The Annie E. Casey Foundation; The Carnegie Corporation of New York; the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust; and Toyota. A panel of leading academics, policy makers, community leaders and educators focused on creating a national action agenda in three main areas: Policy, Philanthropy, and Educational Outreach. Two additional panel discussions focused on the current state of the Hispanic family and the important role of the family unit in improving education for all its members.
