Frequently Asked Questions about the National Conference on Family Literacy
Who attends the Conference?
The National Conference on Family Literacy attracts practitioners, administrators, policy makers and literacy experts each year. Educational professionals who work in program administration, adult education, early childhood education, elementary school education (Title I), GED, ESL, Even Start, libraries, social services, Head Start, migrant education, comunity literacy and work-focused literacy all attend the Conference each year.
What is the Conference about?
You’ll get the latest information on legislation, research, technology and practical strategies in family literacy and related fields. You’ll also have access to a regional and national network of educational leaders, professional associations and organizations.
Where will the Conference be held?
The 2009 National Conference on Family Literacy will be held March 1 - 3, 2009, in Orlando, Florida. Check this site frequently for updates and travel information.
When may I submit a proposal to present at the 2009 National Conference?
The Call for Proposals for concurrent sessions is now available online (click here for guidelines). Deadline for submission is October 20, 2008. We also will be accepting proposals for poster sessions beginning in September.
Do presenters receive a discount?
Lead concurrent session presenters receive a 50% discount on the basic Conference registration fee ($395 through January 29; $435 after January 29). This discount applies only to the lead presenter. All co-presenters must pay the total Conference registration fee. Poster session presenters must also pay the total Conference registration fee. Early and late registration deadlines and fees apply.
When will descriptions of the Conference sessions be available?
Check out the Pre-Conference Training descriptions, the Keynote Speakers, and the special Family Literacy Institutes and Luncheons. Additional session descriptions will be updated frequently, and the complete Conference program will be available in February 2009.
Does the Conference accommodate persons with disabilties?

Are scholarships available for attending the Conference?
Not at this time. However, if you would like to send a letter stating why you would qualify for a scholarship, we will keep the request on file in case we are able to secure a sponsor to support scholarships. E-mail your request to conference@famlit.org.
How do I get a registration form?

Are Purchase Orders accepted for registration?
We do accept purchase orders, even when you register online; however, you must submit a copy of the actual purchase order for billing purposes. We cannot accept a purchase order number without documentation.
When should I make my plane reservations?
We recommend that you wait until you receive registration confirmation from NCFL before making plane reservations. While we anticipate being able to accommodate all who wish to attend the Conference, we cannot guarantee that space will be available closer to the event date. The quickest way to receive confirmation is to include your e-mail address on the registration form (required when you register online).
