The goal of NCFL's Policy and Advocacy efforts is to design, assess, advocate and lobby for federal and state policies that sustain and expand family literacy services.
When possible, NCFL provides input on federal and state policies that will impact family literacy services. NCFL also is working to grow the national grassroots network of family literacy supporters through the Family Literacy Alliance and other local program outreach.
Family literacy practitioners operate in a complex world of legislation, policies and funding opportunities. NCFL, with the help of family literacy supporters nationwide, continues to play a key role in positioning family literacy as an effective educational intervention for our nation's most disadvantaged families. NCFL and the family literacy field have strengthened the role of family literacy in a number of federal laws including the No Child Left Behind Act, the Head Start Act, the Workforce Investment Act and the Community Services Block Grant Act, to name a few.
