Leadership

A top national researcher, president of the International Reading Association and director of reading for one of the most diverse public school districts in the country. The vice president of airline operations for the world’s largest package delivery company. The chief human resources officer of a global document, messaging and mail enterprise. A former family literacy student now working to improve the health and economic well-being of women in need.

These are just a few of the leaders that champion NCFL and the cause of family literacy, leaders who recognize that literacy is the foundation for national economic well-being and local community progress.

As part of NCFL’s leadership, we regularly convene top business and education experts as members of NCFL’s Board of Directors and Board of Advisors. These active champions help NCFL shape the future of literacy and the future for families.

Nationally and internationally, NCFL is depended upon to continue its unique mission of:

  • Shaping public policy and raising awareness on a national stage through Congressional testimony and drafting legislation, as well as educating the public and the media.
  • Conducting research that creates new and powerful methods to increase the literacy rates of children and parents.
  • Providing cost-effective tools for programs to improve the educational services they offer to at-risk families.

“The National Center for Family Literacy is not only a leader in the area of family literacy, but they are, in fact, the very pioneers who built the strong foundation we stand on now. Further, they continue to remain at the forefront of the national family literacy movement by being engaged in a wide range of services to support family literacy. The training and support provided by NCFL enable many organizations to be on the cutting edge of research-based trends in early childhood, parenting and adult education.”
