Creating a Literate Nation by Leveraging the Power of the Family

National Family Literacy Day at the Museum

NCFL celebrated National Family Literacy Month yesterday with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH).The Verizon Foundation made this wonderful event possible!

Staff from NCFL arrived early to help set up for the event.

Families from local Toyota Family Literacy Program sites were invited to be part of the celebration.

Brent Glass, Director of the National Museum of American History, welcomed everyone to the museum and told us about the free resources available on the OurStory website.

Families explored exhibits, participated in storytellings, and worked on crafts based on two children's books: Freedom on the Menu: The Greensboro Sit-ins and The Flag Maker.

Thanks to Jenny and Carrie from NMAH who helped make the day a huge success.

A fun time was had by all!
