The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a report to a U.S. Senate subcommittee included NCFL’s Toyota Family Literacy Program.
The report on English language learning notes that TFLP operates in 75 locations across the country and has developed family literacy programs that focus specifically on English language learners, with support from Toyota and the National Center for Family Literacy.
It’s important that the federal government and key members of the U.S. Senate who focus on education understand the importance of this private investment. This spotlight on family literacy efforts for immigrants is especially critical given the GAO’s other finding that the need for English instruction will not decline as foreign-born adults are expected to account for a larger share of the future workforce.
