The Harlequin 100,000 Book Challenge continues, with over 50,000 books already donated to Family and Child Education (FACE) programs across the country! And there’s still time for you to join in this great campaign! These books have been an invaluable tool in engaging adult readers in family literacy programs. Here’s a story from a teacher in one of the FACE programs that has already received books:
"On Wednesdays parents go to the library for 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading, and they can choose a Harlequin book to take with them. During this time, one young woman who said she didn't like to read became so engrossed in a book that she was reading it while walking back to the classroom and ran over the teacher. This may not seem remarkable to folks who don't understand how hard it is to engage adults in reading but for me, this is an exceptional story. What a great way to develop a love of reading!"
The Challenge will continue until we reach 100,000 books, providing the foundation for more wonderful stories like this one. Turn your love of reading into a new book for an adult learner; for every book you read, and then review online, a book will be donated to a FACE program. Please help us reach our goal by visiting eHarlequin.com to sign up to be a part of the 100,000 Book Challenge.
Since its inception in 1990, the FACE program has impacted the lives of more than 20,000 American Indian parents and children. The Bureau of Indian Education funds the program and has supported NCFL’s leadership role in FACE since 1990.
